Hi everyone! As you'll see from the attached photos, several members of our block association were out today spreading compost and planting Spring flowers in our tree beds. Our trees and flowers will be all the more healthy this year due to several wonderful developments:
1. The block association is working with ConEd to increase tree bed size when they redo our sidewalks (coming in May) - thanks ConEd!
2. We also are also lucky to have received more than forty 30-lb bags of amazing compost from the great folks at DSNY's NYC Compost Project - thanks Debbie and Louise!
The NY Compost Project is a program created by the NYC Department of Sanitation in 1993 to provide compost education and outreach to NYC residents, nonprofit organizations, and businesses. NYC Compost Project staff help distribute DSNY compost and mulch to city agencies and non-profits to help communities improve the soil and health of their trees, and make their streets and city greener. For more information on how to get some compost for your block please fill out the NYC Compost or Mulch Request Form for NYC Street Trees.
