Hi all,

The Parks Department just wrote a nice article about our Block Association's efforts at gathering feedback on the Mathews Palmer Playground redesign. You can read the article here: Neighborhood Group Revitalizes Hells Kitchen Playground.

Some history:

Mathews Palmer Playground has been a part of Hell's Kitchen since it was first constructed in the 1930's. This year the playground won a $1.8 million appropriation from Speaker Quinn's office for a much needed update and redesign. To make sure the community had a say in this process, our block association teamed up with the 46th Street BA, Friends of Mathews Palmer Park and People Make Parks to gather with our neighbors and secure community feedback. Our efforts resulted in the Design Your Park Day.

Despite the cloudy skies and occasional rain, turn out from the community was amazing. We received input from hundreds of residents and park users. The results were compiled and are now with park designers who should be presenting designs to the community in the Spring of 2014. We'll update you on progress as soon as we have the info. Thanks to all who came out to help reshape the park for the next 20 years!

For those interested, the poster created to promote the event and the report submitted to the Parks Department are attached.
