New tree guards

We installed 3 new tree guards on the enlarged tree beds that ConEd / Network created for us in connection with the 45th St. dig. These larger beds are great for the block for several reasons:
1) larger tree beds improve tree health--more water and nutrients get to the roots
2) healthy trees scrub pollutants from the air--vitally important in this neighborhood next to Port Authority and Lincoln Tunnel
3) larger beds reduce run-off during storms, helping the overloaded sewer system (in big storms effluents go directly into our rivers b/c of overload)
4) larger beds allow more planting to green and beautify the block.

We're looking for citizen gardeners to help plant these beautiful new beds this spring. This could be a fun new hobby, and a great way to give back to your block--just get in touch if you'd like to help out.
